Clash between Boko Haram and military kills at least 23 people in Cameroon Horde of heavily armed jihadists attacked command post in northern country

A clash between national security forces and the jihadist group Boko Haram in northern Cameroon on Monday (26) ended in the death of at least 17 extremists, five military personnel and one civilian. The information was released by the Ministry of Defense and reproduced by the Chinese state agency Xinhua.

According to military sources, "a horde of heavily armed terrorists Boko Haram, and aboard several light tactical vehicles, attacked the command post of the MNJTF (Multinational Joint Task Force) at 22:30 located in Zigue."

The clash took place in the far north of the country, which borders the Nigerian state of Borno, a region with a strong Boko Haram presence. In addition to the fatalities, three soldiers and one civilian were injured.

“Troops remain on high alert throughout the far north and at the borders to prevent possible further attacks by terrorists Boko Haram, which appears to have regained its strength following the internal restructuring of its ideology,” the statement adds.

Last Saturday (24), eight Cameroonian soldiers and 20 militants were killed when insurgents invaded a military outpost in Sagme, another town in the region.

11 year conflict

The MNJTF is a joint military effort created by Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Nigeria and Benin to combat Boko Haram and the ISWAP (Islamic State of West Africa Province), which threatens the stability of these countries and the entire region.

Boko Haram terrorists have been fighting for 11 years to create an Islamic caliphate in northeastern Nigeria. The fighting has spread to Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Benin, with regular assassinations, burning of mosques, churches, markets and schools and attacks on military installations.

The UN (United Nations) estimates that the violence of Boko Haram killed 30,000 and displaced about two million people.

In Brazil

Cases show that Brazil is a “safe haven” for extremists. In December 2013, a survey by The Brazil Business website indicated the presence of at least seven terrorist organizations in Brazil: Al Qaeda, Jihad Media Battalion, Hezbollah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Al-Gama'a Al-Islamiyya and Islamic Combatant Group Moroccan.

In 2001, an investigation by VEJA magazine showed that 20 terrorist members al-Qaeda, Hamas and Hezbollah were living in the country, spreading terrorist propaganda, collecting money, recruiting new members and planning violent acts.

In 2016, two weeks before the start of the Olympic Games in Rio, the PF arrested an Islamic jihadist group that was planning attacks similar to those of the Munich Games in 1972. Ten suspected allies of the Islamic State were arrested and two fled. Know more.
