U.S. President Donald Trump left the White House by helicopter early Wednesday morning, breaking a century-old tradition of taking part in his successor's inauguration. The helicopter took off the gardens of the presidential residence at around 8:15 am (10:15 am in Brasília), hours before Democrat Joe Biden arrived. Trump embarked with his wife, Melania, and will travel to Florida. The tycoon is the first president since 1869, with Andrew Johnson, not participating in the inauguration ceremony of his successor. Trump to this day claims to have been a victim of election fraud, although he never presented evidence of his allegations. In the past few days, however, he has stopped spreading false information after being blocked on major social networks. On January 6, supporters of the Republican invaded the Capitol to try to prevent certification of Biden's victory. The episode prompted the opening of an impeachment case against the tycoon, who is accused of inciting an insurrection. The Senate trial will take place even after Biden's inauguration and could culminate in the forfeiture of Trump's political rights.
